Step 1: CHOOSE A PROGRAM

Shapes & Intro to Tumbling

Ages 4-6

This class follows a curriculum specifically designed for ages 4-6. Allowing them to learn the shapes, concepts, body control, strength, flexibility & confidence to progress more safely and faster creating the proper foundation for future years of tumbling. All athletes ages 4-6 years of age will start in this class. Athletes will be evaluated regularly to keep track of progress and to see when they are ready to move up.

Intro to Tumbling

Ages 6-14

This class follows a curriculum specifically designed for older athletes that have not mastered the foundational skills or that are new to tumbling. Allowing them to learn the shapes, concepts, body control, strength, flexibility & confidence to progress more safely and faster creating the proper foundation for future years of tumbling. All athletes ages 7-14 years of age without a standing back handspring will start in this class. For athletes with experience, this allows us to evaluate them for 1-4 classes without the pressure of the more advanced skills. Athletes will be evaluated regularly to keep track of progress and to see when they are ready to move up.

Tumbling Basics

Level 1

This class focuses on teaching athletes the more advanced basics of tumbling to allow them to progress more safely and faster through higher tumbling levels. 

Prerequisites:
Standing backbend kick-over, handstand hold, both forward & backward rolls & a cartwheel.

Athletes will be evaluated regularly to keep track of progress and to see when they are ready to move up.

Beginner Tumbling

Level 1 Advanced

This class focuses on teaching athletes how to start using power in their tumbling with skills such as back handsprings, front handsprings, and round-offs. 

Prerequisites:
Back walkover, cartwheel step-in & blocking handstands. 

Athletes will be evaluated regularly to keep track of progress and to see when they are ready to move up.

Intermediate Tumbling

Level 2

This class focuses on teaching athletes how to connect their skills from previous class into other tumbling skills such as round-off-BHS’s, FHS-diveroll, and standing BHS-BHS. 

Prerequisites:
BWO-BHS, FHS, cartwheel-BHS, roundoff.

Athletes will be evaluated regularly to keep track of progress and to see when they are ready to move up.

Advanced Tumbling

Level 3

This class focuses on teaching athletes how to generate more speed & power in connections learned in previous class levels to lead into stronger standing series & tumbling into tucks & front tucks. 

Prerequisites:
5 powerful connected standing back handsprings, power hurdle RO-BHS-BHS-BHS.

Athletes will be evaluated regularly to keep track of progress and to see when they are ready to move up.

Elite Tumbling

Level 4

This class focuses on teaching athletes how to generate more speed & power with less running and fewer back handsprings to lead into Tucks & Layouts as well progressions for standing tucks, FHS-front tucks, RO-BHS-Layouts & more. 

Prerequisites:
Standing 3 BHS’s into a tuck, RO-BHS-tuck.

Athletes will be evaluated regularly to keep track of progress and to see when they are ready to move up.

Worlds Tumbling

Level 5&6

This class focuses on teaching athletes how to execute single fulls, doubles fulls, Arabians & more. 

Prerequisites:
Standing tuck, standing BHS-BHS-BHS-layout & RO-BHS-layout.

All athletes new to Empire Athletics will be required to start in a class for the skills they currently have, not working towards. For example, an athlete with a standing back handspring will start in the Beginner, Level 1 Advanced, class instead of the Intermediate, Level 2, class. This allows Empire Athletics coaches to evaluate, clean techniques, and build confidence for this level before moving onto the more advanced skills.
